DO NOT FORGET OUR ROOTS

We often walk around without noticing them. Your neighbors and friends may not even know they exist. They are not massive, old or unusually shaped.

So what's interesting about them?

ABOUT TREES OF LIBERTY

They symbolize the rise of Czechoslovakia. In the years 1918 and 1919 the people planted thousands of them. The mayors, pupils, and members of local associations participated in the planting. The trees were covered with ribbons, houses were decorated, an anthem was sung, and a list of memories was laid on the roots.

The trees were also planted in later years (1928, 1945, and 1968) whenever people wanted to commemorate and celebrate the importance of liberty and democracy.

To celebrate the 100th anniversary of our republic, we will organize an event similar to those in the past where we will discover the long-forgotten Trees of Liberty, give them professional care, and plant new trees with your help.

Are you ready?

WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO?

  • We will revisit the stories of 1,918 trees planted to celebrate liberty and democracy.
  • We will encourage tree owners to protect the trees. Crowdfunding will help us finance the professional treatment.
  • We will organize Days for the Trees of Liberty (20-28 October 2018) and connect the community throughout the republic by planting 2,018 trees. For planting, we will provide at least 100 mature lime trees.
  • We will establish a new tradition to celebrate the establishment of Czechoslovakia, making the public more aware of these trees’ importance.
